COMPETITION: ESSAY COMPETITION

DEADLINE: 15 JULY 2017

As one of the aims of the Contemporary Forum is to promote critical discourse on arts and culture in Malaysia, ILHAM is organising a competition for the best essay by a younger writer about the Contemporary Forum — its themes, its two exhibition hangs and its process. The competition is open to Malaysians under 39, and essays can be written in either Malay or English. 

To Enter the Competition
To enter, please submit a 300 to 400-word Proposal for an essay that you would like to write about the ILHAM Contemporary Forum, currently on exhibition in the Gallery. The proposed essay need not be limited to a review of the show; it may, for instance, comment on the themes, issues and processes of the Contemporary Forum project. Your proposal may include mention of the artworks that you wish to discuss and your reasons why. It may also include an outline of some of the ideas and arguments for your proposed essay. In addition to your proposal, please also submit a 250-word biography; do not submit your CV. Essays for the competition may be written in either Malay or English.

Eligibility
The competition is open only to Malaysians under the age of 39 years.

Please submit your proposal and biography together as a single PDF document (please name your document with your initials). Include your full name and your email address and contact telephone with your biography. Submissions may be written in either Malay or English.

DEADLINE
The Deadline for submission of Proposals is 15 July 2017.

Finalists
A Jury will select the best 3 Proposals from the submissions, and ILHAM will commission these 3 Finalists to complete their essays. The 3 Finalists have until 31 August 2017 to complete the essay, which should be 1,800 - 2,000 words in length. All 3 Finalists will receive an honorarium of RM300. Throughout the Jury's deliberations, the names and identities of the participants will be withheld from the Jury.

Winner
The Jury will select a Winner from among the 3 Finalists, who will receive a prize of RM 1000.
